What's the better hotel to stay at if you are from out of town?

I want to hit up all the tourist attractions in Houston, which hotel makes more sense to stay at? Flying into the airport where I'll get a rental car. Any recommendations help too (cost is a factor)

Renaissance Hotel - 6 Greenway Plaza E, Houston

Houston Marriott Westchase - 2900 Briarpark Dr. (Galleria), Houston

Hilton Houston Southwest - 6780 Southwest Freeway, HoustonWhat's the better hotel to stay at if you are from out of town?
The closest to the Galleria is the Houston Hilton Southwest.

The Westchase Marriott is only a few miles, but traffic on Westheimer is awful. Figure 15-20 minutes. Greenway Plaza is five miles from the Galleria off of Highway 59. Also heavy traffic.

Any special reason you want to stay in the Galleria? If you have a rental car you can stay anywhere you want. What's the better hotel to stay at if you are from out of town?
Houston Marriott is cool to stay at

But the Galleria is so congested and because you are coming from out of town it can be very confusing.

Perhaps you should consider somewhere that is not so congested
I dont know why you guys gave the Derek two thumbs down--it is actually the same price if you get it on hotels.com as any hilton, or marriott, and its really nice.... Plus she can walk to the galleria without having to look for parking. The Hilton SW is a REALLY shady neighboorhood. I rented a car from there once and it was scary.

Try hotels.com and figure out what area you want to stay in--I wouldnt stay all the way on the North side you will spend the majority of your time driving!
Hotel Derek on 610 and Westheimer by the Galleria is good!
Try a Hampton Inn. They are owned by Hilton %26amp; cost less.

What's the age you have to be to book a hotel room in new york?

i'm nearly 18 and planning to go to nyc next year, does 18 count as an adult in america for booking hotels or do you have to be 21? im from the uk so i wouldn't know. What's the age you have to be to book a hotel room in new york?
In regards to booking a hotel in New York City, that depends on the hotel. There is not set standard, therefore, some hotels will have an ';18 and over'; policy, while other will have a ';21 and over'; policy.

If you are under 18, you cannot book hotel room in New York City.

Below is a list of hotel, where the minimum age to book a room is 18.

Kinda cr*p i know.

  • Could i pay a hotel just to use the shower?

I'm going on a 3 day bus ride from British Columbia, Canada to Fort Smith, Arkansas during the holidays to go see a friend, and unfortunately im taking the bus lol... i hate going without showering, i feel so grubby... so i was just wondering if its possible that i could go to a hotel and pay to use the shower for like an hour and not have to actually pay the price for a room? Do they do that? My mom said some do, but.. well, i dont know about believing her haha. Thanks.Could i pay a hotel just to use the shower?
You never know until you ask. If the town is large enough, try their YWCA or a community center with a gym or an aquatic center.Could i pay a hotel just to use the shower?
Depends on where you go... I usually drive from the west coast to the east coast and I like to stop to freshen up and not sleep. I have stopped at a Marriott before and it was 20 dollars for an hour in the room as long as I didn't do anything but shower, I used a motel 6 and it was 10 for an hour, Red Roof in was 10 an hour and I think a spent 20 at a days in.

States I remember using them in. Texas, NM, Missouri and NJ.
I have never heard of such a thing! I don't see a problem with asking though. i would just call some random hotels around those areas and ask. Some people on here may say ya they do but maybe only certain places do it...i hate that feeling too. if you can't figure something out take a crapload of those like fresh wipe things lol
the price of the room. Because they have to hire the maid to clean it, so its one flat fee. You could try going to a gym and telling them u want try it out, go walk on the treadmill for 5 to make it look like ur trying then take a shower. lol most gyms don't charge for the first day
some will allow this as they have separate showers from the rooms may be at their gym or pool but ask the bus driver where you stop as there is probably showers available on the way. some of the road side stops will have showers. Just remember to take a towel with you
I think it just depends on the hotel and the owners or who ever was working there that day. I don't see how it could be a problem if you also paid. You could find out the near hotels near your stops and call in and ask, but it's up to you.
    Are u serious

I don鈥檛 think hotel will allow you only for shower

But I advice you check the hotel which they have gym %26amp; swimming pool service they have the guest entry for gym %26amp; swimming for an hour base fees very small amount

Check the price %26amp; enjoy your gym swimming %26amp; bath lol

    Good luck
Find a public pool and ask for a day pass. Or find a gym and see if they will give you a free trial. Asking a hotel if you can use a room for an hour will probably get you mistaken for a prostitute.
I don't believe they do, but you can always call the hotels ahead of time...

Or you could buy some ';Dry Shampoo'; (shampoo you spray on your hair and brush out) and some personal wipes....

Unglamorous, but it would do the trick...
well you could find a hotel that is sorta outdoor so you can go around back with a pool and u can see if its the door is open or if it needs a key and u can put on ur suit and use the pool shower LOL seriously
I never heard of hotels doing that and I have been in the travel industry. But you could go to the big truck stops and pay for a shower.
most likely. but they may make you pay for the whole night cause they have to clean and they want your money. call around to some that are on your bus thing or whatever and ask. cant hurt.
i dont really know but u can try but the thing i luv about the hotel is the shower i luv all of the little shampos they give u dont u oh and have fun with ur friend ober the holidays
Some places will allow you to rent rooms hourly. I'd assume many of these places are by highways because of all their transient guests.
Well you could ask them but i doubt they will let you or just stay at the hotel for a day, if they do that so its cheaper
probably not a regular hotel or anything about 2 stars. lol. I do think a hotel without that much traffic would let you..
I've never heard of that but some rest stops have showers. Of course, some of those showers are gross but still an option.
    yes....

but that hotel management may have cams......in.
Bring a bathing suit and go swimming
i don't think so. but some small hotels might need all the money they can get and let you
    rest stops
call ahead of time and ask
    no?
No they dont Ill let you pay to use my shower
    i dk but interesting q ... :P

What's the best hotel near the airport in San Jose, Costa Rica?

We're flying to San Jose, Costa Rica with 2 little kids and are arriving late in the evening. I want to go to a decent reliable hotel that's close to the airport. I was thinking of the Costa Rica Marriott Hotel San Jose, though it's a little expensive...

Any recommendations? What's the best hotel near the airport in San Jose, Costa Rica?
Yes, the Costa Rica Marriott is 15 Minutes from the airport bit very expensive. Just 5 Minutes from the airport there is a Hampton INn %26amp; Suites (apartments) or the Garden Court (used to be Hampton Inn). Melia Cariari or Ramada Herradura are also 15 Minutes. They are both reliable and not too expensive. Also there are some small locally owned hotels near the airport as Mango Hotel, Hotel Aeropuerto, and some in the city of Alajuela. But if you want to go with something of US Standars, go with the two mentioned. Good luck!

What is the song ';Hotel California'; By the Eagles talking about?

How do you interpret the song? I'm not sure. I think drug addiction or insanity? Am I right or wrong? Did something happen there or is it even a real place? Please tell me your interpretation. What is the song ';Hotel California'; By the Eagles talking about?
It's a modern take on a chapter of the ancient Greek epic, The Odyssey (by the poet Homer). Ulysses, on his return voyage from the Trojan wars back to Greece stops at a place that sucks the will to work, to explore, to fight, out of his men.

The Eagles' Hotel California is a metaphor for the land of the lotos eaters... a place you can enter, but never leave. A place where everything is easy, and where people just lie back in a stupor, whiling the rest of their lifetimes away, smoking pot, shooting up, drinking: a constant indulgence in hedonistic pleasure that will never end: ';Sex, Drugs, and Rock 'n Roll';... The Lotus plant, when eaten, induces a psychedelic stupor just like LSD.

By extension, I think it's fair to say that in this song, the Eagles are insinuating that the whole state of California is America's ';lotos land';.

A real-life example of this myth happened when the crew of the HMS Bounty mutinied against their Captain, the infamous Captain Bligh, to return to Tahiti and surrounding islands (particularly Pitcairn Island), hoping to live out their lives in a paradise of flowers, flowing streams and girls... forever renouncing their ';reality'; of 18th century England.

If you like the Eagles' song, I think you'd like Alfred Lord Tennyson's poetic rendition of the Greek myth too.

';Let us swear an oath, and keep it with an equal mind,

In the hollow Lotos-land to live and lie reclin鈥檇

On the hills like Gods together, careless of mankind.';What is the song ';Hotel California'; By the Eagles talking about?
I always thought it was about a cult, but drugs would be a good interpretation.
Think it has something to do with the excesses of American society, when others in the world are starving.

Hotel California isnt a real place, they are using it as a mechanism to represent California/America. Once you visit, you'll never want to leave.

What is a good hotel in San Jose, CA near the downtown clubs?

My two friends and I are traveling to San Jose, CA for a foosball tournament at Cuetopia in just over two weeks. We want to check out the club scene in San Jose and would like a hotel near them. Is there a hotel that isn't over-the-top but still a nice place? Please help!!!What is a good hotel in San Jose, CA near the downtown clubs?
San Jose has a stretch of many different night clubs within about a 1 mile radius. There's tons of hotels near them... you might want to check the DeAnza hotel... it's nice and right on the main street where most night clubs are located. There's also the Marriot and the Hyatt St. Claire, which are around the corner from other night clubs and bars. What is a good hotel in San Jose, CA near the downtown clubs?
San Jose Sheraton is pretty nice as well. THere are tons of places to stay in San Jose.
Check out the Hilton San Jose - its hella nice - not too pricy on the weekends - and its walking distance to all of the clubs/bars!
Saint Claire is the nice one and its right around the corner of all the 1st street bars and across the street from Cesar Chavez park. Right in the middle of everything.
    Ramada Inn is pretty good..

Hilton is a bit more ';pricey';.

I know they have a nice hotel in Santa Row (across from valley fair shopping mall). They have a lot of clubs, good restaurants, and shops around the area. Just search Hotel Valencia Santa Row on google and it will show you the hotel.

Credit Card for holding hotel room question?

When you use a credit card to hold a hotel room (lets say its for $100 dollars) and if its far in advance like a few months, is that amount blocked on your credit card that far at advance or just until you check in? Im planning a few nascar trips and going to be reserving over 10 hotel rooms and was just wondering..Credit Card for holding hotel room question?
Credit card blocking occurs when a merchant contacts your credit card company with an estimate of what your total bill will be and ';blocks'; that amount even though he isn't charging your card for the total amount at that time and might not ever charge your card for that amount.

An example of a situation where credit card blocking occurs is when you use a credit card to register with a hotel or car rental service. They call in an estimate of what your total bill might be to your credit card issuer and have that amount set aside or blocked for possible future use. This way you can't stiff them on the final bill later on.

While an amount has been blocked it cannot be used to make other purchases. So, if you leave your hotel room to go shopping, you might find your credit card declined on the basis that you have reached your credit limit.

Some credit card companies will let you go over your limit and then access an ';over the limit'; fee on your next statement. These fees are heavy and you want to avoid them if at all possible.

For the above reason, it is not a good idea to use a credit card that you have nearly maxed out when you travel.

Hope this answers your question.Credit Card for holding hotel room question?
The amount is not blocked. It's paid to Hotel as amount for advance. If they allow you to cancel the booking they will refund the amount normally after deducting a particular percentage of total amount.

example: 3% of $100 will be deducted on cancellation.

As an advise please read the terms and conditions carefully before you proceed with on line payments.
no. they just use your credit card info in case you don't show up in that case they would charge your card for they full amount of all 10 rooms so you better make sure no one backs out or you'll be stuck with their part of the bill. however i would double check with the hotel on what their policy is.
You've just given them the authorization to charge you for the no-show penalty (usually the first night's payment) if you don't show up.

If they did put a hold, it falls off your account fairly quickly if the transaction isn't completed.

This is a great reason to not use debit cards.
Depends on the hotel. Most hotels have a one night deposit to hold the room for you. Just in case you dont show they will not lose money for that room for that night

What's the best hotel in Vegas for always getting dressed up and partying?

I'm trying to decide on a hotel in Vegas.....it's my first trip and it's only 3 days long. I'm not really going for the sightseeing, more so for the restaurants, nightclubs, and to get dressed up on a daily basis. What hotel is the best for this? The ones I'm looking at right now are Hard Rock, Palms and NYNYWhat's the best hotel in Vegas for always getting dressed up and partying?
Hard Rock is just the opposite, the less the better. Somehow I can't see rockers getting dressed up but rather dressed down. Palms and the Wynn/Encore are more of what you are looking for. When the Wynn first opened you couldn't even enter the casino if you weren't dressed properly. No shorts and tank tops (tshirts) were allowed. It changed over time for economic reasons. Those are the two choices. Forget NYNY for what you are looking for. What's the best hotel in Vegas for always getting dressed up and partying?
Hard Rock is very young (you didn't say your age), but the nightclub is right there. Palms is at least 10 years older. NYNY is borderline budget casino.

    -----------------------

Hard Rock has a very distinctly different flair from the other casinos. The casino is very small, and is almost there to give the place atmosphere. There are a lot of table games. Hard Rock makes about $1 million a week in their casino, which is typical revenue of some fairly small slot clubs full of retired people. Gambling is much less important than the pool party, the nightclub, and the dining.

    -----------------------

Wynn/Encore makes about $1.5 million a day on the casino, so the bets are much bigger, and the high rollers either go there or Ceasars Palace or Bellagio. Late at night you will see people very dressed up going to the nightclubs and restaurants.
Of those 3, Hard Rock might be the best, it has a couple fairly nice restaurants and a high-end nightclub.

Palms does as well, but also has a food court with McDonald's and Panda Express, a multiplex movie theater, and a day care center, so it can be a bit of a mixed crowd when the locals bringing their kids to watch Disney movies mingle with the frat boys from LA who are sharing a $79 room.

NYNY is mostly middle-aged couples in shorts, tshirts, sandals, and fanny packs.

If you can afford the REALLY serious restaurants, shops, and clubs, then consider Wynn/Encore, Venetian/Palazzo, or Bellagio. Those are the places you could wear a 4-figure outfit on a weeknight and not feel out of place.
Regarding the queries you have i can recommend you some of the best hotels which can meet your hotel billing expectation in terms of budget and will provide you best services, through below mentioned link you can search hotels and can make directly bookings as well.

The Signature Hotel at MGM Grand Las Vegas is located in the heart of the city and near some of the most famous casinos and entertainment venues. This Las Vegas hotel is a short walk from Cirque de Soleil, the Grand Garden Arena and many other destinations.

    http://www.search.hotelsbookingdeals.com…
Out of the three you have mentioned I would pick the Palms. However I stayed at the Venetian and that was by far the most amazing cuisine and I dressed to the nines every night. Plus if you are staying on the strip there are a tons of clubs near you. Its absolutely a unique experience but I dont want to give too much away. Have fun.
Palms is very nice but NYNY is better for me because of the location. I prefer to stay directly on the Blvd. where I have something around my hotel. Before you book check http://www.vegas-hotels-online.com - perhaps you will find a good promo code for one of your desired hotels.

Where is the best hotel close to Wrigley field?

We're going with our kids and were also wondering about restaurants and boat tours. Would Second City be appropriate for teenagers? Who has the best pizza in Chicago? Is a trip to Super Dawg worth it? Thanks!!Where is the best hotel close to Wrigley field?
There are a bunch. Probably the most used one is the Days Inn on Diversey and Clark streets, about four or five blocks away from the ball park. It's used a lot, not just by visiting baseball fans, but bands who come to town to play at the Metro (a concert venue not too far from Wrigley). There is a website that lists hotels near Wrigley: http://wrigleyfieldhotels.com/. There's another website that not only lists hotels but other attractions around the ballpark: http://www.outoftheballpark.com/

Boat tours are available at navy Pier and on the river near the Tribune Tower on Michigan Ave.

as far as second sity and teens, I'd be a little wary. Not that they're dirty, but they can do some adult themed jokes and skits. They may even have an age limit for their shows, because they do serve alcohol. I'd contact them to find out. But if you have some hip, mature teens, give it a shot.

As far a best pizza, everyone is going to recommend deep dish pizza, but I'd recommend trying the thin crust instead. There's a new wave of thin pizza places sweeping the city, trying to capture the TRUE pizza style (sorry, deep dish ain't ';authentic';. Try Piece, a place in Wicker Park. It's a huge place and has great thin pizza and makes its own beer on premisis. And wicker park is a nice neighborhood to walk around and sightsee. There's also my favorite, Spacca Napoli (http://metromix.chicagotribune.com/dinin鈥?/a> A little out of the way but worth a cab ride.

Speaking of cab rides, Super Dawg is worth it, but it's a LONG cab ride. It's even a pretty long ride for driving if you're coming from Wrigley Field. but again, it might be worth it to just see it once. It's a cool 50s style drive in hot dog joint. You put the speaker on your car, order and they bring it out to you. There are also picnic tables to sit outside and eat at. There's not much else to do in the area, so Super Dawg is pretty much it. But if you go on Saturday night, I think they still have their 50s cars cruise by. Guys who fix up there cars still congregate there on weekends in the summer. The cars are pretty sweet.

Oh, and the hot dogs are great too. They have that weird neon green relish that I love and the fries are killers. They have other things too (polish sausage, etc.) if you don't want a hot dog.Where is the best hotel close to Wrigley field?
    Bestwestern i belive
Superdawg is entertaining. I like it. If you are bringing your car, then sure, go there. But you can get a good hot dog or Polish at countless spots throughout the city. If the kids are little, they might get a real kick out of Superdawg and his girlfriend, as well as the carhop service.

If you can afford it, try a somewhat upscale restaurant, or a restaurant featuring a cuisine you haven't tried. It would be a learning experience for the kids (try Ethiopian! you eat with your hands, using a pancake-like bread called injera), and at the very least, it would be something different. I would totally go for that over pizza.

Of course, I do realize that people outside of Chicago have been deprived of quality pizza, so go ahead with that if you must. ;-)

Why won't the hotel throw me a break in costs for our recepion? We are reserving the banquet room and 15?

rooms. Now they are telling me tha the hotels policy is that we cannot bring in our own large capacity coffee maker. It has to be commercially made coffee brought in or we can have them supply coffee for $2/person. This may not seem expensive until you apply it towards 50-60 guests that will bedrinking coffee. $1/cup would be more reasonable, in light of spending $1000's with them already. Why won't the hotel throw me a break in costs for our recepion? We are reserving the banquet room and 15?
Hotel policy is hotel policy for a very good reason... often, that reason is a previous lawsuit.

The hotel has people to employ, you know. Maids to clean the rooms, servers to set up the banquet hall, make and serve food if they are catering in-house, then break down and clean up when your event is over. Chances are they've already given you a nice break on the room price because you've reserved a block of rooms for an event. You can't expect them to want to LOSE money. Why won't the hotel throw me a break in costs for our recepion? We are reserving the banquet room and 15?
Hi and congratulations! The reason they won't cut you a deal is because they don't have to! Sorry....

I am super surprised that you can even bring in your own coffee. Hotels have a banquet policy to not only to protect them but your guests as well. Also, the state health code rules need to be followed (regarding bringing in food, etc.) Also, if they cut you a ';deal';, then just think....they would have to do the same for everyone! That is the reason that they have their dollar figures for food/beverages, etc. These are the prices that they need to stick to.

PS -- Where on earth can you get a cup of coffee for $1 these days? Really, where I live even in the small ';mom %26amp; pop'; type diner, the coffee is $2.
    Congratulations on your upcoming wedding!

It is a liability to the hotel to bring in outside food and drink. The hotel is responsible for serving your guests per health department and state standards, because if they don't it's their license on the line. As far as what they're charging you can try to negotiate that down, but I wouldn't hold out much hope. If the hotel offers complimentary coffee to all of its guests I would ask for that same consideration. But you're going to get very basic.

    Good Luck
Be persistent, speak to the manager if necessary. Our caterer won't allow anything we want to bring unless it's from a commercial vendor, either. Reason being is for liability purposes; if something is tainted the commercial vendor is responsible and they are bonded/insured.

Just a note though, since you've blocked 15 rooms the hotel should give you a break on the room rates if nothing else.
They're in a business, that's why! They don't have to throw you a break. If every business did that, then they'd all be going bankrupt. You either pay the $2 or don't have coffee. I'm being harsh, I know! But, they could have easily booked that banquet room and 15 rooms to another couple. It's not like your situation is out of the ordinary.

I'm always up for asking for a deal or break, but once the answer is no, I get over it and move on.

I also agree with the other posters about the liability involved with bring in your own items. That could be a reason too.
That's because they don't want you suing them if the coffee is tainted.

With vendors that they work with, the hotel at least knows that it's done per FDA standards.

When it's done by your coffee maker. . . They're not sure.

The same goes with food prepared by you. They can't take the risk.

    *

    *

    *
I'm surprised they are offering to let you bring in commercially made coffee at all. Most places give you one price per head that covers everything from soup to nuts including drinks, and they don't let you bring in anything they did not provide. .
The hotel is in business to make money. They have employees to pay and their families depend upon that salary to live.

Most hotels do offer discounts on hotel rooms for larger groups .

If this venue is too costly, scale down or choose another venue.
    They just don't care. Sorry.!
Personally, I'd threaten to cancel the booking even if that meant forfeiting the deposit.

Second, I'd go buy like a 20 watt car AC/DC converter for about $60 and brew coffee out in the parking lot - maybe with a big sign explaining why, so as to embarrass the hell of of these snooty bat's turds!

Hey I need some help to understand a song, and is Hotel California from the Eagles. someone can explain to me?

Hey I need some exploanation about the song of the Eagles, called Hotel California, I need to know what is the real teme of this song, what is the message that express.Hey I need some help to understand a song, and is Hotel California from the Eagles. someone can explain to me?
    ';This is about materialism and excess. California is used as the setting, but it could relate to anywhere in America. Don Henley in the London Daily Mail November 9, 2007 said: ';Some of the wilder interpretations of that song have been amazing. It was really about the excesses of American culture and certain girls we knew. But it was also about the uneasy balance between art and commerce.';

    On November 25, 2007 Henley appeared on the TV news show 60 Minutes, where he was told, ';everyone wants to know what this song means.'; Henley replied: ';I know, it's so boring. It's a song about the dark underbelly of the American Dream, and about excess in America which was something we knew about.';

    Help me out with mine?

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;…Hey I need some help to understand a song, and is Hotel California from the Eagles. someone can explain to me?
The music for Hotel California probably comes from the song ';We Used To Know'; - by Jethro Tull. The Eagles toured with Jethro Tull just before they came out with their song. See:

    http://youtube.com/watch?v=EgO7MamJnqM

The song is credited as being written by Don Felder, Don Henley and Glenn Frey. It was released in 1976 by the Eagles.

There are many fantastic ideas about the meaning of the lyrics of the song. These theories usually pick one or two isolated items from the entire song. Almost all songs tell a story, and as such all of the lyrics should contribute to the whole. Hotel California is no different.

The meaning of the lyrics are that the song is a description of the journey from ‘Need’ to ‘Love and Marriage’ to ‘Divorce’ and ultimately to the impossibility of regaining the life and happiness of the pre-divorce state.

Initially the traveler is feeling the need of a relationship “My head grew heavy and my sight grew dim, I had to stop for the night.” The traveler meets his love and gets married “There she stood in the doorway. I heard the mission bell.” A marriage commitment opens up the possibility of happiness but, also, the traveler is aware that he is vulnerable to the possibility of intense unhappiness. “And I was thinking to myself, this could be heaven or this could be hell.”

Unfortunately the marriage dissolves and as the divorce approaches his former love becomes obsessed with money “Her mind is Tiffany-twisted” where “Tiffany” refers to the very expensive New York Store, Tiffany %26amp; Co.. With the divorce there is the division of property- “she got the Mercedes Benz.” After the breakup when he sees her with any guys she reassures him that the “pretty, pretty boys” are just “friends.” In this new world of being single the other singles he meets do their “dance in the courtyard.” of life. They generally fall into one or the other of two groups. There are those who can’t stop talking about their Ex. “Some dance to remember” and there are those who don’t want to say anything at all about their past marriage “some dance to forget.”

Now in this world of being divorced he longs to return the pre-divorced state of happiness “So I called up the captain, please bring me my wine” but he finds that his happiness (wine) is now irrevocably in the past “we haven’t had that spirit here since nineteen sixty nine.”

Deep into the post-divorce single’s scene with “mirrors on the ceiling, the pink champagne on ice” he is reminded that it is his actions that got him into the prison of being divorced, “we are all just prisoners here, of our own device.” And, yet, he and others want this divorce nightmare to be over, so- “they stab it with their steely knives, but” they can’t become pre-divorced, “they just can’t kill the beast.” Now frustrated he panics and is, “running for the door. I had to find the passage back to the place I was before,” when he was married, but he is brought up short when the night man informs him that, “You can checkout any time you like,” (commit suicide) “but you can never leave” (become pre-divorced).

There are two choruses in the song and each mention the “Hotel California.” This reference is to the environment in California around the time the song was written. California was experiencing the highest divorce rate in the nation. Each chorus has lines that remember his past marriage “such a lovely place” and his past lover “such a lovely face.” The first chorus indicates that there can always be more divorces “Plenty of room at the Hotel California, any time of year, you can find it here.” The second chorus points out that, as a part of trying to understand how you got divorced, you will always “bring your alibis…”

For a really good rendition see:

    http://youtube.com/watch?v=HAM1g0oX4OE
With all of the interviews that Don Henley has done, he has never ever given a straight answer. Nobody really knows what it means, everyone has their opinions on it. I think a whore house to be honest with you:

';Then she lit up a candle and she showed me the way

There were voices down the corridor,

    I thought I heard them say...';

';She got a lot of pretty, pretty boys, that she calls friends

    How they dance in the courtyard, sweet summer sweat...';

    ';Mirrors on the ceiling,

    The pink champagne on ice

    And she said we are all just prisoners here, of our own device...';

Although, My boyfriend thinks it could be about drugs. There is a lot of thought going around on this good question. There is no true answer in my opinion. There is so many roads you can take with this song. What do you think its about? ;-) I like the mystery of this song though. Its like they did want anyone to know! hahaha Good Luck

    Bug-A-Boo
Many have said it's about a cult out in Cali.';You can check out anytime you want but you can never leave'; meaning once you sell your soul you can't get it back. Something like that anyway. I've only heard about 300 stories about it. That one probably makes the most sense.

    Haha I like Davids answer!
The general theme is about the fast paced hedonistic California lifestyle the band members were living at the time, and the feeling of being trapped by the desires for more of it, more women, Drugs, and Alcohol.
why does it have to have a meaning its just a great song listen to it,
it's pretentious babbeling by spoiled rich boys from california
My GUESS is that it's about an insane asylum

Can I get a hotel reservation for free?

I am trying to get a visa for Schengen Countries. They require a flight itinerary and hotel confirmation. But I don' t feel comfortable booking the flight and hotel until I get the visa. Is there a way that I can get a flight itinerary and hotel reservation for free??? Or do you think I can explain to them my concern and submit the visa application without a flight and hotel reservation? Can I get a hotel reservation for free?
Most hotel reservations are generally free, it is the terms %26amp; conditions (T%26amp;C) you have to look out for. The general rule is the more expensive the hotel room rate is, the more flexible the T%26amp;C is. Go to any of your preferred hotel and look at the 'Cancellation' clause of the room rate quote and look for something like 'no cancellation charge if cancelled before 6pm local time'. You do need to provide your credit card details to book it, but just remember that to note down the cancellation number when you cancel. Can I get a hotel reservation for free?
the hotel reservation is free, you just give them the dates and your creditcard number, and then they bill you after you use the room. I dont know where you are trying to go, most of the time you dont need a visa, just a passport, if you are american. If that is what they require though, you know how buerocrats are, you are gonna have to dot your t's and cross your i's.

If I become a hotel maid will it keep me in shape? Is it a gross job?

I'm looking for a job and I'm considering applying at a couple hotels. I'm trying to lose weight and want a job that will help with that. And is it really disgusting? I get grossed out easily. If I become a hotel maid will it keep me in shape? Is it a gross job?
    2 words.

    Sex. Blankets.

That's all :)If I become a hotel maid will it keep me in shape? Is it a gross job?
I dont think a hotel maid would be the best choice for you. Its more stressing and hard than people believe it to be. After a while of working as a maid, peoples bodies begin to deteriorate from doing the same movements over and over again. IF you really want to do this job it probably wouldnt be too disgustin with the maximum being scrubbing showers and toilets. However, i think if you want a job that keeps you physically active without hurting yourself work with kids. They always make you keep your energy levels up to keep up with them. :)
OMG whoever suggested working with kids was not thinking. If you are grossed out it is about the worst idea to work with children. They are dirty and full of germs and will constantly make you ill. I worked at a children's shoe store and I am a germ a phobe, I wash my hands like 30 times a day and I got sick all the time from it. Also they puke all over, crap and piss themselves, and snot on themselves and you get to clean it up. I would take cleaning toilets over children any day! As far as being a maid, yes it is very gross. I have found many interesting things being a maid, sex toys left behind. A guy who was staying to visit doctors that coughed up blood on his sheets every night. Homeless people with aids sores all over their bodies that leaked all over the sheets. A guy who had tumors all over his face and would cut pieces of them off and put them in the garbage can that I had to take out. Feces, vomit, urine. Lice in the bedding. Yeah overall nasty. I am a Paramedic now and even being a medic is less disgusting than being a maid. Maybe you could get a clean job in an office or something and just go to the gym for your exercise. Or you could do land scaping or something for work and exercise. Good luck!
More than a desk job as you are walking. For the most part it is not disgusting. There is a knack for cleaning a room and making a bed in a fast and proper way.

Anyone stayed at the Hotel Benvenuti in Florence?

Going to Florence in June for 4 nights and looking for a clean and comfortable, yet affordable hotel, and this seems to fit the bill.. but it seems too cheap, something must be wrong!?

thanks!Anyone stayed at the Hotel Benvenuti in Florence?
Haven't stayed there but have just been to Florence - such a magical city - I love it - we stayed at the Hotel Grand Mediterraneo - it was ok but I don't know about affordability though - we were on a package. It was too far from the CBD.

When you choose your hotel try to select one that is close to the Duomo or Ponte Vecchio. I like to walk around and so I try to select hotels by location.

Another fun and cheap way to find accommodation is B and B's - I used one in Roma - it was great - clean, comfy and cheap and they feed you breakfast!

Is there a hotel in Nigeria called limelight?

I got an email from someone that I met online and she said she is American and stranded at this hotel. They confiscated her airline ticket until she pays. I am not sure if she is bsing me, but she sounds pretty desperate and sincere. Can she get help from the United States embassy there? Is there a hotel in Nigeria called limelight?
http://www.419scam.org/419-stuck-in-hote鈥?/a>Is there a hotel in Nigeria called limelight?
I would say it is 99.9% likely that it is a scam.

Whereabouts in Nigeria is she supposed to be? I've lived in Lagos and Abuja, and I've not heard of the Limelight - though there are 1000's of hotels in Nigeria.

There is US Embassy in Nigeria. They have offices in Lagos, Abuja, Kano and Port Harcourt. A quick google would tell you their phone numbers.

Find out where she is supposed to be flying to and from - how the hotel people got hold of her airline ticket - see if she can supply a location and phone number for the 'hotel'.

If she is being held against her will - she should be able to contact the US Embassy who should at the very least, contact the police.

Like I say though, I'm pretty certain this is a scam
It is a scam. That is what they do they play on your compassion and if you dare send them money, something else will go wrong and they need more. Look up Nigerian scams and you will find many just like your own.
Please don't contact them again. All Nigerians and BLACK are cheaters.

  • Question about booking hotel with debit card?

I've read hotels ';freeze'; debit cards when you use them as payment. Do they just freeze those funds or do they freeze the entire card? Example: I book a room for $50 they withhold say $200 for possible damage or whatever the reason they withhold funds is. But if i have $1,000 in my account can I still use the other $800 or is the entire card frozen?Question about booking hotel with debit card?
i think you made your reservation with a booking company because the hotels charge credit/debit card when you check out, the money is hold because you made it through a booking company, they charge in advanced ';to guaranty the rate'; the transaction for charging may take up to 72 hours, then it will show as charged, it's the same when you pay at the hotel but they only hold the room rate and sometimes a deposit, the deposit is released after you check out it's just to cover incidental charges, (just in case something happens), but don't worry you can use your debit card as long as you have money on itQuestion about booking hotel with debit card?
Every hotel has a different policy. Some may not even freeze your card. It all just depends on the hotel.

The best thing to do is to call the hotel before you make the reservation. Major hotel chains have a 1-800 number you can call, so it usually won't cost you anything to ask questions. Speak with the front desk or someone in accounting.
well, in canada, debit cards are not linked to credit cards...so if you were to say register at a hotel, they would charge the card upfront for the amount of the hotel stay, PLUS, the 100 or 200 security deposit. NO more than that.

Even in the USA, where there is often a credit card backing the debit card, they would only

';preauth'; a certain amount....Not the entire limit on the card.

You should ask the hotel directly how much they will preauth the card for when you are booking.
When I've done this with my debit card, they have always accessed $300 over and above what the room rate is.

You should be able to use whatever is available in the account apart from the $300 or whatever the amount is, unless your card has a stipulated amount that is your ';spending cap'; for the day or if there are other rules attached to your account.

Your best bet is to call your bank and find out what their policy is, because it would sure suck to get caught short.

    :D Best of luck !
Not only does it depend on the hotel. It also depends on your bank.

For example, Bank of America generally drops most hotel holds the next morning. ING doesn't drop the hold for 3 business days. And many people have told me that their bank keeps the hold for up to a week.

The hold will be no more than what the hotel has asked to hold. So if you have $1,000 in your acount and the bank asks to hold $200, the remaining $800 will be available to use.
It's not a freeze on the card. It's simply a 'hold' of a certain amount. The hold is usually for about 7 days. You can use the remaining balance in the meantime.

I'm not sure if the same rules apply in every state, but in my state you must be at least 18 to work in a hotel.

At 15, you are going to have a difficult time finding a job due to child labor laws, safety laws that have age requirements, etc. You will also have to hold a valid work permit to be legally employed under the age of 16.

Am I allowed to travel and check in at the hotel at 16?

Am I allowed to travel and check in at the hotel at 16 years old? I mean Can I travel by my self in Europe and live in a hotel alone?Am I allowed to travel and check in at the hotel at 16?
Without a credit card you will find it difficult as virtually all hotels require either a CC imprint or a large cash deposit.

How old do you have to be to rent a hotel in Puerto Rico?

I am 18 and two of my friends are 18 the other is 17How old do you have to be to rent a hotel in Puerto Rico?
Most you need to be at least 18, some others 21 and still others 25. It depends on the class of hotel or resort you are planning on. I would contact the hotel in advance so you won't have a embarrassing moment and no where to stay.

Plus you will need a credit card.

Good Luck)How old do you have to be to rent a hotel in Puerto Rico?
it depends what city you are in

in san juan the capital probably 21

but if you go to like ponce or another city maybe 18 and you do need a credit card and some kind of ID
21 and have a credit card and a valid state ID.
    my mom said 21
18 and a credit card should be enough, call the hotel reservations number to be sure.

California universities providing hotel and restaurant management education?

Ok, here's the story. I'm currently a nursing student who has 1.5 yrs left to graduate. Let's just say, I've learned that nursing is not the profession for me. I plan to just finish what I started so that I'll have a great back up job to pay the bills while I go back to school for hotel and restaurant management. Any recommendations on schools? There is a lot of vocational culinary art schools that provide this major but the highest degree is an associates. I would like to get some recommendations on universities, cal states, etc. Also, is the job lucrative. Also, I have a friendly personality and wish to have a job that can incorporate my open attitude. I've heard from those who have chosen that path (Hotel/restaurant management) that they have met really cool people to work with and the environment is overall pretty good. I feel like I wasted my time w/ nursing but then again...oh well. At least I have a back up plan...it's not the end of the world.California universities providing hotel and restaurant management education?
No offense, but your best bet would be to come up to Las Vegas, and go to UNLV... We have a really good hotel and business management school... and being a largely hotel/casino/restaurant industry city, you will most definitly have a job out of college.... It's not that far away from California... and you'd be where the ';market'; for such a job is...

Check out UNLV's website... And I wish you the best...

www.unlv.eduCalifornia universities providing hotel and restaurant management education?
    There's California State Politechnic University

and http://www.alliant.edu/ %26lt;----you can go there and there are more college listings for it, as well.

Good luck, I wish you all the best.

What can I put in a small bag at the hotel for our traveling wedding guests?

Does anyone have any suggestions on what to put in a gift bag for our guests that are staying in a hotel? We appreciate these people forking over the money to travel and stay in a hotel for our wedding. A few small items would be good. I don't want to spend anymore than $10 or $20. The wedding is in Chicago. Thanks! What can I put in a small bag at the hotel for our traveling wedding guests?
You can put any number of things in the bags to make your guests more comfortable. Try things like bottled water and small snack bags (pretzels, cookies, etc), maybe tylenol or aspirin just in case, a map of the area with a few things to do (restaurants, tourist destinations), maybe the contact information for a few transportation companies.

What can I put in a small bag at the hotel for our traveling wedding guests?
wow! that's really nice of you. umm maybe some snacks for the hotel so they don't have to hit the minibar? some water, cans of pop (if you know what kind, or just go with coke or pepsi, most people will drink those). Maybe you can get a gift pass for a local attraction they might want to go to?

    Good luck and congrats!

whoops I had one more idea. Go to the local chamber of commerce (there must be one somewhere) and get a map that has all the local attractions highlighted. maybe some brochures of those places.

oh another idea: lol. is there a restaraunt attached to the hotel? could you get a gift card or something so they can grab an appatizer to eat in their room at some point? Like after the reception or maybe the next day if they are staying for a while? If you don't have TOO many people int he hotels try and eprsonalize it a bit based on the individual person or situation they are in

Oh if there is someone who's never been to Chicago before what about a little chicago souvenir...keychain? shot glass? something small though.
Check out the ';trial size'; aisle at Wal-Mart or your local drugstore. People who are travelling often forget things and you can make up a little bag of some essentials in case they forget something. Not soap or shampoo, the hotel will have that. Things like a toothbrush, deodorant, baby powder, hand lotion, a hair comb, a map of the area, a little pack of breath mints, etc. If they are coming from far away, you could put in some of those super stretchy gloves or a hand warmer. And maybe some little pin or souveneir of Chicago as a memento? Just some little stuff like that can be nice and make them feel like you have really cared enough to think about their well-being and happiness.
I'm in Chicago as well (getting married in NY, though) and we were originally going to go Chicago-themed welcome baskets for guests, But ended up nixing it and doing the NY theme instead (Chicago-themed, tabled, though!).

Do some Garett's popcorn bags. If you contact corporate headquarters, they'll give you a wedding favor price list. There was a mini bag on there for $2. So reasonable, and so tasty! Also, you could go to Nuts on Clark and see if they have mini bags of nuts or something, and then make sure they put the ';Nuts on Clark'; sticker on them:)

Lush soaps are expensive, but I'm sure if you want in there and said you were doing wedding welcome baskets, and just wanted small slices for each one, they could work with you and yoru price range.

Other than that, just include maps of the area, bottles of water, maybe some CTA pre-paid cards for people, circle your favorite places to go in some cheap tour-guides (which you can probably get for free if you do a little research).
    For The Adults:

    - Personalized Note From You

    - Map Of The Area

    - Local Attraction Information

    - Water Bottles

    - Travel Size Advil

    - Snacks (Chips, Dried Fruits, Candies ect)

    - Important Phone Numbers

    - Maps/ Directions to and from Wedding

    - Local Keepsake Trinket

    - Post Cards (from the area)

    - Chap Stick

    - Boxed Tea

    - Powdered Cider

    - Toothpaste (I always forget this lol)

    - Travel Size Toiletries

    - Gift Certificates to tasty local restaurants

    For The Kids:

    - Juice Boxes

    - Fruit Snacks

    - Colouring Books w/ Crayons

    - Match Box Car(s)

    - Small Doll

    - Kids DVD (if the hotel has a DVD Player)

    - Kids Bath Bubbles
We did welcome baskets as well. We basically got them a lot of snack foods, water, etc. because it is so expensive to go buy snacks in the lobby of the hotel. We got them some chips, candy, crackers, bottled water, tea, instant coffee, etc. We also provided them with maps, directions and travel guides (usually you can get them for free at AAA). Maybe you could get them a deck of cards and if they have kids some crayons %26amp; a coloring book.

If December 2012 is the end of the world, why the heck are they trying to put a hotel on the moon by 2019?

If its the end of the world, why are scientists still trying to come up with new things? If its the end, we should all stop paying our bills and say screw it. I think its all a load of crap and its just a way to get people in a panic. The world will end when it will end. God is the only one who knows when that will be. There is other things we need to be focused on instead of 2012.If December 2012 is the end of the world, why the heck are they trying to put a hotel on the moon by 2019?
I so agree with you. I think they are making up a bunch of CRAP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

People shouldn't listen to this CRAP ! because it makes them panic!!!!!!!!!

    don't worry about it!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:]If December 2012 is the end of the world, why the heck are they trying to put a hotel on the moon by 2019?
I NEVER SAID SCIENTISTS WERE SPREADING THIS. IF THEY BELIEVE IT TO BE THE END, WHY ARE THEY STILL TRYING TO INVENT NEW THINGS? BECAUSE ITS ALL A LOAD OF CRAP!!!!!!!!! THATS MY POINT!!!!

Well, the answer is pretty simple actually. You see, 2019 is the closest that they can get to to get this hotel on the moon. It has to be big enough to support the entire earth's population. Fortunately, 2019 will be close enough for it to work, even though it's seven years after the end of the world. Right now, at this very moment, they're working on building rockets to get everyone out into space. By the time it's December 2012, they'll have everyone off of the planet. Since the ships will be so massive, it'll take about 9 years to get to the moon. So, they should actually be starting the launch by February. They have to get people up there in order to begin building this hotel where the whole world will live. So, people will actually be arriving in shifts and receiving jobs at the moon hotel. So, 2019 should be soon enough to save at least 2/3 of the population, which should be good enough.
2012 is NOT the end of the world.

The Mayans NEVER said such a thing.

This 2012 idea comes from white people are influenced by New Age and the Christian Bible's Book of Revelations that fortells the end of the world.

The Mayan Calendar is like a car odometer...after 99,999 it just converts to 100,000 and keeps on going.
Why are you saying it's scientists spreading this crap?

Scientists are not predicting the end of the world. All you did was create yet more crap for logical, rational thinkers to have to refute. Thanks loads.
If everything stops, will that mean no more internet porn?

    2012 is a hoax.
Because scientists aren't the ones claiming that the world will end in 2012.
i know its stupid, cant wait for 2016 olympics lol.

Is there a way to get Disneyland discounts, or good hotel, food discounts that may not be public information?

If anyone knows anything we don't we'd sure appreciate you sharing your secrets with us! Thanks! Is there a way to get Disneyland discounts, or good hotel, food discounts that may not be public information?
Do you know anyone who lives in Southern California already? Southern California residence can get discounts on Disneyland tickets. Also a good idea is purchase one of these books they are full of coupons for restaurants, travel etc.....Here is the link: http://www.entertainment.com/discount/ho鈥?/a>Is there a way to get Disneyland discounts, or good hotel, food discounts that may not be public information?
disney do not discount and are trying to stop part used tickets being sold on so be careful, you may be refused entry and lose yor money
you can buy a season pass and get discounts in every store in the park(s) including restaurants and hotels.
for food... bring a backpack and stuff some granola bars or other easy but filling snacks so that you only have to have larger meals (lunch or dinner) in the park, also put in a couple bottles of water so that you don't have to buy their 5 dollar bottles of water... or if you can stand southern california water (which is gross to me) you can always ask any of the restaurants for a cup of water... they HAVE to give you one... both of these saved my family when we went this summer! and if you have any little ones with you, its a good idea to make a ';family t-shirt';... this summer we saw TONS of families wearing the same color t-shirts with a cute name or number on them and on the back were ';mommy and daddys'; phone numbers... very cute and very easy to spot people in the same group! hope this helps!
    Ebay.

Lots of people ticket share these days, i.e. buy tickets for 5-days when they only need 2 then sell the remaining 3-days at a discount. People also sell the bonus items they receive with the S.Cal packages and travel deals. Just make sure you check the seller's feedback and make sure the person is reputable. OR, find someone ahead of time you know that would like to ticket share with you.

I am staying at a Holiday Inn after the cruise, but am looking for a closer one to the pier for the day we fly in.I will be on a cruise from venice in aug and am wondering if others can recomend a hotel close to pier?
It will be a little bit difficult to get a hotel really close to the pier, because the harbor is a big industrial place.

Venice is not that big, so it will take you not that long to get to the pier. The shortest way will be from the ferrovia (railway station) or Piazzale Roma ( bus stop from the airport and big parking place for cars) with a taxi boat ( 10 minutes or so...). They are a loooot of hotels in the surrounding of the ferrovia.

The Marriott in the old County Hall is undoubtedly in the best location - right on the River Thames, next to the Houses of Parliament, London Eye etc. It's a pricey Marriott, but the location justifies the price somewhat.

If you check their web site, they have a business center. Sometimes this means just a place to make copies or faxes, other times it includes computers (French keyboard layouts may appear differently than what you might be using at home).

Check with the hotel directly to make sure.

I would like to be a doctor,or own a hotel.I am quite clever but what do i need to start doing now ?

To like do well at uni etc.

Im 13.I would like to be a doctor,or own a hotel.I am quite clever but what do i need to start doing now ?
I do medicine so I can tell you a bit about becoming a doctor. Right now all you can really do is work hard and get good grades. If you want to improve your intelligence further, I'd recommend watching documentaries and reading books, you're brain is still developing so it will help you. Obviously, these should be in a subject or genre you are interested in otherwise there is no point.

In a couple of years time you'll need to do work experience at a hospital, do charity work. Also not everyone can become a doctor because it is emotional and mentally demanding, you need to see doctors at work and think about whether you really want to do it. Owning a hotel? It seems to me that you are motivated by money and there are better ways of earning money than being a doctor. That said, if you like an academic challenge, medicine stretches the brightest of us, you'll love it if you are motivated in that way.I would like to be a doctor,or own a hotel.I am quite clever but what do i need to start doing now ?
they are quite diverse careers! If you want to be a doctor you will need to study science subjects and maths and english and gain a place to study medicine at university - places are very competitive. For hotel management you would probably have to go to uni (or you could work your way up within a hotel) to study hotel management. Have a look on ucas website to see what universities do these courses and what qualifications you would need and go from there.
for now all you should be doing is concentrating in school, doing your homework and readying books, the better education you allow yourself to get the more options will be open to you after you finish secondary school
LOL medicine and hotel owning are worlds apart. Just do well in all your subjects at the mo so you can decide what you wanna do in a few years.
