I want to be able to walk to the beaches and to restaurants. The Holiday Inn Express says it's ';adjacent'; to the boardwalk to Venice beach. Is this a skanky area?Best hotel near the beach in Marina Del Rey?
If you want to be close to the boardwalk in Venice Beach and the Santa Monica Pier, your best bet for a nice hotel is either Shutters or Casa Del Mar, but be warned that you'll spend at least $400 a night for a room. The rest of the Venice area isn't exactly skanky, it's just that the vibe of Venice Beach itself makes it appealing to a lot of homeless people and people who would not be considered in the mainstream. You might feel more comfortable in Santa Monica but it'll cost more. Have you checked travelers' ratings for the HI Express on Expedia or Orbitz or Travelocity? They might help influence your decision. Have fun!
